Dakboerin is an initiative by Annelies Kuiper.  Dakboerin is working with residents, schools, offices and restaurants to build rooftop kitchen gardens in areas where growing space is scarce. A rooftop kitchen garden has a lot of advantages. it provides a good isolation, rainwater capture, living space for birds and insects and of course you can get nice food from your rooftop. Annelies was always interested in sustainable living and organic food, but when she read an article in Green Amsterdam, she really wanted to explore urban agriculture. This because ground is scarce, but there are enough rooftops! Dakboerin works together with experts during the construction — calculating building materials, applying for planning permits, and designing hives and chicken coups. Dakboerin won second prize in the Biodiversity Innovation category at the New Venture Business Plan competition in London last month.

Dakboerin is a very good initiative because it uses unused spaces and it makes the city greener. It is also very good for the environment because now it wont take lots of kilometers to get the food to their destination. Also the rooftop itself has a lot of advantages I told about above.
